Accessibility statement
We want everyone to be able to use this website, whatever device, connection or assistive technology they use.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Ownsay is not a public body, so this isn’t a legal duty for us. We do it because the people we serve need it.
What you can do on this site
- Use it with a keyboard alone. A “Skip to content” link appears when you first press Tab.
- Zoom text up to 200% without content being cut off.
- Use a screen reader such as VoiceOver, TalkBack or NVDA.
- Use it on a small phone, from 360 pixels wide, on a slow connection. Each page is built to load quickly.
- Change how it looks and sounds with the Accessibility button at the top of every page: larger text, high contrast, easier reading (a plainer font with more space), underlined links, no movement, text only to save data, and reading the page aloud with your device’s own voice. Your choices stay on your device.
- Turn off animation: if your device is set to reduce motion, we respect it, or choose “Stop movement”.
- Leave quickly: press the Shift key three times to go straight to the BBC weather page.
Plain language
We write for a reading age of 9 to 11. Easy read versions of our privacy notice and plan guide are on our list. Translations of fixed content will be checked by fluent speakers.
Known limits
- This website is a preview. We will test it with screen reader users and our community advisory group before launch.
- Content is in English only for now. More languages follow our pilot, chosen by the people who use us.
Tell us if something doesn’t work
